Plaka is a small, picturesque village located on the northeastern coast of Crete, Greece. It's situated near the town of Elounda and not far from the larger town of Agios Nikolaos, facing the historic island of Spinalonga.
Plaka is most famous for its stunning views of the island of Spinalonga and for being one of the main departure points for boat trips to the island. It's also known for its charming, traditional atmosphere and waterfront tavernas.
Plaka is well-regarded for its waterfront tavernas, many specializing in fresh fish caught daily. You'll find places offering delicious traditional Cretan cuisine and standard Greek fare, often with tables right by the water's edge. There are also cafes and bars.
Plaka retains much of its traditional charm. It has a relaxed, peaceful atmosphere compared to larger nearby resorts. It feels like a traditional fishing village that has gently embraced tourism, largely focused around the sea, the views, and good food.
